Prin is a knitter, weaver, and spinner. She is passionate about these ancient skill’s links with the landscape and culture. When we are not discussing grist and twist, staple and draft, we’ll be making those connections. We’ll look at how natural fibers fit into the landscape: wild and domestic. We’ll touch on a variety of tools and techniques that have developed from diverse spinning traditions, and get a feel for what makes this essential craft so simple and yet so multilayered. And of course, we’ll make warm, wonderful yarn.
Students will go home with spindles and fiber to continue their practice. Wool will be available to purchase for spinning at home.
Everything we cover will be helpful for students learning to spin on a wheel, as well. If you have a wheel of your own, we encourage you to bring it to the course and get support with how to use it.
Please note that this course takes place on two consecutive Saturdays. Students only need to register once.
