Workshop Overview
Students will learn to cut, shape, then anneal copper and brass sheet-metal to create kitchen utensils or candlesticks. Students will begin by sinking and raising copper and brass to form spoons, ladles, or drip pans for candle wax. Then, students will forge the iron components to structurally complete each piece. These pieces include candle holder arms, bases, wall sconces, and candle cups or handles for serving utensils. Students may round out the set with a rack or fork if time permits.
Skills + Techniques
Students will learn:
- Work with a traditional coal forge and mild steel
- Body mechanics, metallurgy, and safety
- Start and manage a coal-fired forge
- Cut, shape, and anneal copper and brass sheet-metal
- Forge iron components

- Students may bring forge tools they would prefer to use over those at Sanborn Mills Farm
