Blacksmithing: Door Hardware

September 27, 2019 @ 8:00 am - September 29, 2019 @ 4:00 pm

Time:  8 am to 4 pm each day
Materials/studio fee:  $20 payable during registration.
Meals:  Lunch featuring our farm grown food is included
Instructor: Garry Kalajian

This three-day workshop focuses on handmade hardware for doors and cabinets.  Like all workshops, this one will begin with a discussion on how to maintain a good coal fire.  There will also be a discussion of basic metallurgy and its application to door hardware.rouund door knocker

Students will be able to see examples of pulls, hinges, thumb latches, slide bolts and door knockers.  From there students can choose at least two projects to undertake.  Possibilities include a door handle or pull, a strap hinge and pintel. Time permitting, students can tackle a thumb latch or door knocker.

It is helpful if students have some basic experience managing a coal fired forge and an understanding of basic blacksmithing techniques.  Beginners are welcome but should be ready for a challenge.
