Blacksmithing: Traditional Joinery

Students will learn the types, methods, and processes of Traditional Joinery, that is, joining bars without machine processes. Joinery methods include riveting, “collars” (wrapped decorative bands), mortise and tenon, tenon and wedge, and forge welding. Students will choose one method to practice and apply the process to a project of their choice. Some possible projects are candle holders, fire tools with decorative handles, a trivet, or tongs.
