Ox Yoke Making

June 4 @ 8:00 am - June 6 @ 4:00 pm

Whether you have a pair of oxen or are considering the purchase of a team, you will need a well-fitting and functional yoke. Join instructors Ray Ramsey and Tyler Allen to learn the process of Yoke Making for your oxen.

This three-day workshop will begin with a discussion of choosing the right wood for a yoke, including how to saw the cant. Students will then learn to shape a yoke using power tools, which includes the removal of extra material to lighten the yoke, and sanding. Students will leave the workshop with knowledge of how to size, make, and finish yokes on their own, as well as leave with a finished Yoke.

Yoke Hardware Kits

Yokes require hardware to work properly with cattle. Hardware kits include Bows, Bow Pins, and Staples. Students will not create Hardware in this workshop, but have the option to purchase Hardware Kits separately. Like the Yoke Sizing, the price of Hardware Kits varies depending on the size needed. Instructor Ray Ramsey will reach out to students one month prior to the workshop about the option to purchase a Hardware Kit and the size needed.
