Workshop Overview
In this workshop, students will sew projects of their choosing utilizing a special fabric. Beginner, intermediate and advanced sewists, this class is for you! Use that special fabric you made in Indigo Shibori Dyeing class, that silk your uncle brought home from Japan, or those vintage fabrics from the flea markets in Kyoto-or maybe you have a special fabric from a favorite designer that you are just hesitant to cut. If you’ve been holding on to that “special stash” just waiting for the right project, this it! Debbie will guide students in construction, trouble-shooting, and learning new techniques.
The “products” made in this workshop will be entirely student-driven. Do you want to practice cut and sew for starting your #memadewardrobe? Or, have you wanted to create a silk table runner or pillow, but do not know how to stabilize the piece for easy sewing? What about that pieced quilt-top for a new baby in your life? This workshop will be one week of sewing with Debbie as your guide and a class community to offer their ideas and support. Debbie will help students choose a pattern or patterns from her offerings. Students are also encouraged to bring their own patterns and can consult with Debbie prior to the workshop on project choices. Students may also choose to hand sew if possible. Join Debbie and your fellow makers for a true sewing retreat!
Need some inspiration? You can see a few of our favorite patterns below. We could see you making The Sydney, The September, or The Workaday from Merchant and Mills, the LB Pullover or Block Tee from Paper Theory Patterns, the now-classic Wiksten Shift Dress + Top, the Dress No. 1 from 100 Acts of Sewing, or our current Spring favorites the Tamarack Jacket from Grainline Studio and Lichen Duster from Sew Liberated.
