Forge Welding

Taught by: Garry Kalajian

Workshop Fee: $150.00

Students will be shown and encouraged to practice – repeatedly – the basics of all forge welds:  how to make and maintain a perfect coal fire, how to properly position one or more bars in it, how to identify the right heat, and, using the right flux, join them by hammering.  Lap, “T”, corner, and fold over welds will be covered in depth and attempts to master them will occupy the majority of the class time.

Time permitting, the welded bars can then be used to a make one or more pieces, such as a number, letter, a basket weave element, or chain links.

Experience managing a coal fire would benefit students, but all levels are welcome to come and try.

Materials Fee: included in the cost of the workshop.

Special Tools or Equipment: The farm makes available to students eye and ear protection, gloves, and aprons. Comfortable closed toed shoes and street clothes are recommended. If you have forge tools you like working with you are welcome to bring them.

Workshop Policies: Please be sure to read our policies before you register for a workshop which can be found here Workshop Policies
