Overview

Weave one or two different style tote baskets. One has Shaker Tape Handles and the other has handles that will be shaped out of spline or large round reed. Students will learn traditional weaving methods, including over/under, twining, locking rows, and how to apply rims and how to shape a basket. We will also talk about various weaving materials, the general construction of a basket, how to care for baskets and the different finishes that can be utilized to personalize your work.

  • Students will cut their own spokes.
  • The round tote has a double bottom that is twined together.
  • Will learn to shape and weave the sides.
  • Learn to twine the top, cut and tuck all spokes.
  • Prepare the rims and attach to the basket using binder cane and do a double lash to secure the rims.
  • Will learn to make 2 handles from large round reed or spline.
