Botanical Printing on Cellulose and Protein Fibers
Workshop Fee: $600.00
Over this 5-day workshop, students will dive into the world of botanical printing. We will explore the diverse ways to capture the fingerprinting of nature on fabric using flowers, leaves, tannins, and dye carrier blankets. This course will start at a beginner level and move through both intermediate and advanced botanical printing techniques.
On the first day, we will explore eco-printing on cellulose fibers using flowers. At the end of day one, students will create a playful and bright cotton scarf. Day 2 will begin with preparing protein fibers and harvesting leaves on the farm grounds. Then we will create samples on silk using leaves and experiment with tannins.
Day 3 we will inject color into the workshop by learning how to successfully use carrier blankets for both tannin and resist eco-printing. Day 4 students will create their own kaleidoscope printed silk implementing the techniques they learned over the first 3 days. On the final day, everyone will repurpose an item of clothing they have brought with them as they navigate how to print on a garment. All workshops run from 9AM- 5PM with an hour for lunch in the middle of the day.
Materials Fee: $168.00 Paid directly to the instructor at time of workshop.
