Sculptural Wet Felted Vessels
Workshop Fee: $220.00
In this workshop you will learn to create a fibrous form and transform it into a vessel, pod or bowl. Using the ancient process of wet felting, wool can be transformed into clothing and art. We will be using wool roving, soap and water, and a resist (the barrier that keeps fibers from bonding together).
On day one, our focus will be creating a 3D form using a flat circle or oval resist. You will learn how to create a hollow form with wool. I will be showing you step by step how to layout fibers around the resist and how to transform it into a sculptural vessel. I will introduce ideas for investigating various forms/surface design for day two.
Day two will be open to your personal exploration of sculptural fiber vessel-making. There are many ways to implement surface design. Students may work larger, experiment with cutouts and shape, embellishments and surface design techniques. Participants are asked to bring 2 old towels, a container that is at least 2 cups and a pair of small, sharp scissors and a waterproof bag for carrying wet towels home. This class is suitable for beginners as well as those with previous felt making experience.
Materials Fee: $30-$45 Paid at time of workshop.
