Turkey Wing Whisk Broom

Prior to the Industrial Revolution, most households had a variety of floor brooms, small brooms, and brushes, all for very specific uses. These were mainly made of broomcorn, a type of sorghum. In this workshop we’ll assemble a variety of small brooms. Starting with simple “bundle whisk brooms,” we’ll learn about knots and broom materials, as well as gain the skills necessary to master the “tumble spool.” As the day progresses, we’ll tackle slightly more complex designs until we finish the workshop with a decorative (but still functional) Turkey Wing design.

- Trimming and Finishing
Students will leave with the skills and confidence needed to repeat any of the designs and to tackle new projects as well.
Materials Fee: $15-$25 Paid directly to the instructor.
