Willow Foraging Basket

Taught by: Dan Brockett

Workshop Fee: $250.00

Beginning with a dried frame and handle set, learn to construct a rib-style basket using willow. This traditional European weaving style produces a basket that is ideal for gathering foraged items, collecting eggs or garden goodies. All material comes from Dan Brockett’s farm, where he grows, harvests, dries and prepares the willow by hand. Please note this craft is hand and wrist intensive. This is an all levels workshop. Students with prior weaving experience will have the opportunity to pursue an advanced version of this basket which is shown in the main product photo for this workshop.

Skills and Techniques:

  • Centering and connecting the pre-dried handle and frame set
  • Slyping, shaping and inserting ribs to create basket framework
  • Building symmetry throughout basket with weave pattern
  • Using tamer/dampener tools to increase flexibility of the willow

Materials Fee: $30 per person, per basket (some may wish to begin a second, if time allows)
