Identifying and Dating Historic Everyday Textiles

Workshop Fee: $250.00

How do we know what we know about woven fabrics and the weavers who wove them? This workshop will teach you how to look at and evaluate flat woven textiles from the 18th and 19th century. Microscopic analysis of fibers, yarn types, weave structures and who was weaving what and when will be explored.

 Skills and Techniques:

  • Examination of historic handwoven textiles.
  • Use of the microscope, pick glass and evaluation form.

 

Materials Fee: No material fee, but students may wish to purchase a pick glasses at the end of class for $20.

Special Tools or Equipment: None. Students are welcome to bring historic textiles for examination.
