Fair Isle Fingerless Mittens

Fair Isle is renowned for its tradition of colorful wool sweaters and accessories.  Gloves and mitts are still hand knit there today!  Students will combine wools in the colors of their choice as they knit a pair of fingerless mitts using traditional stitch patterns. This is an intermediate level class. Students should be comfortable using double-point needles and fingering weight yarn.

Skills and Techniques:

  • How to choose colors.
  • Tangle-free stranded knitting,
  • Techniques for holding yarns in one or both hands,
  • Chart reading,
  • Thumbs
  • Blocking

 

Materials Fee: $20 – includes folder, handouts, pattern, and sufficient yarn for a pair of mitts. Paid directly to the instructor.

Special Tools or Equipment: Sets of double-point needles in US sizes 2 (2.75mm) and 3 (3.25mm), pin stitch marker, scissors, and pen for notes.
